Already renowned for his wedding photography in Denver, the photographer has been taking the fashion world by storm beginning with his recent shoot in Los Angeles for acclaimed fashion designer Marrika Nakk who proclaimed Garrett to have “the finest eye for light I have seen in my 30 years in the business.” Building on that momentum and Marrika’s urging, Garrett is extending his talents as a Colorado commercial photographer to include more Western Fashion work, a market that has been exploding more than ever in recent years. Garrett looks forward to working with these impressive designers, wherever they may want him to work, as well as returning to L.A. and Santa Fe to do more work with Marrika Nakk Designs.

Welcome to a new and exciting portfolio collection drawn from years of diverse and passionate work from Colorado commercial photographer Garrett Hacking. While his company, Photography G, has become renowned for all kinds of photography in Denver, it is Garrett’s work in fashion and commercial photography that is stirring a renewed passion for his craft. “It is common for artists of all kinds to have and peaks and valleys in their creative process.” says the photographer. “From my perspective, it is this exact roller coaster ride if you will, that keeps the creative juices stirred and consistently tasty! A healthy balance is absolutely necessary to survive as an artist both creatively, emotionally and yes, financially. That is what separates the real deal from the weekend warriors which digital photography has opened the door to more than ever. You don’t need a license to be a photographer. I wish you did. Few shooters these days have even bothered to go to art school or photography school like I did. And I loved it! There is no substitute for that training. Likewise, there is no fooling people in the commercial world. They are used to working with the top creatives in the industry and I am finding it refreshing to return my talents to a field where there is no faking experience and talent. I am not by any means turning my back on my wedding photography in Denver and beyond. I love it! The pendulum for me is simply swinging back for the time being toward the fashion and commercial world. As I tell my clients from all realms, it is this broad spectrum of experience that helps distinguish me from so many other photographers. To be able to cross-pollinate from one genre to another is consistently a quality in my work that all types of my clients continually express tremendous appreciation for!”

June! Lyons, Colorado. What more perfect time and place to have a wedding! While I love doing photography in Denver, I relish the opportunity to take a little break from my wedding photography in Denver and get away to my favorite foothills  destinations of which I consider Lionscrest Manor to be among the finest. This lucky couple had a day that was absolutely perfect in every way. Light, the first thing I look for, great temperatures, no wind and the colors and scents of Spring, everywhere. I even took some extra time to indulge my love for Colorado landscape photography the next day.  The  first rate staff at Lionscrest, location, amenities and the surrounding community make this venue a top recommendation from this wedding professional who has seen plenty of venues in Colorado and around the world.

The season for wedding photography in Denver is winding down. Garrett Hacking recently grabbed his photographic tool kit and flew to L.A. to shoot fashion for Marrika Nakk Designs. The well known fashion designer crossed paths with the man known well for all things photography in Denver when she was visiting the city in January 2011 for the Great Western Stock Show. Marrika Nakk Designs lean toward the western style while maintaining a distinct sexy casual flair uniquely her own. “I loved her clothes the minute I saw them” proclaims the photographer. “I immediately felt, as did my friends, that these were outfits I would love to see on any girl of mine! Marrika definitely has styles that appeal to women and men alike. I can’t imagine wanting anything more in that line of work.” As for the photo shoot itself, it all came together perfectly. The models were terrific and the most important piece – LIGHT – showed up perfectly. “We had one day to shoot. The models were troopers and we got every kind of amazing light you could possibly wish for! Not to mention the fantastic locales of the beach and Marrika Nakk’s amazing home. I can’t wait to return!” No doubt he will, as Marrika declared Garrett’s eye for light the best she has seen in 30 years in the business. She was positively thrilled with the  final results!

After a stellar performance at the Fox Theater in Boulder the Night before, The John Butler Trio really brought it to their sold out show at Red Rocks. The triumphant return as a headliner followed last year’s first such show which was filmed for the live CD and DVD “John Butler Trio Live at Red Rocks”. This year Garrett Hacking, acclaimed for his live band in photography in Denver, was tapped by the band’s management to document the show with all access perspectives!  Garrett exclaims, “There is nothing better for an artist than to have the ability to create on your own terms. The ability for me to deliver the finest concert photographs is enhanced big time when I am not limited to the “photo pit” and first three songs (the standard for concert photography access). Most often the performers have barely hit stride by then. So I appreciate the ability to capture the essence of the performance and deliver what I believe to be the most powerful and authentic moments of a show.” Garrett Hacking has built a reputation as a wedding photographer in Denver. It is in front of and on stage with his cameras where the Colorado photographer learned his chops. “I must say, The John Butler Trio has quickly become a favorite subject of both my eyes and ears” claims the photographer as he heads down the mountain for more photography in Denver.

Team Beauty!

Renowned for his photography in Denver, Garrett Hacking headed to the high country of Colorado for a fashion shoot featuring select dresses brought along by Cate of the Little White Dress Bridal Shop in Denver. Additionally the team featured two beautiful models, hair styling by Laurie of The Side Door Salon in Boulder, make-up artistry by Breanna and Sally of Alchemy Mineral Blends in Boulder and hardworking Hillary of the Wild Basin Lodge. All the talent along with a fantastic day of Colorado weather combined to make for some stunning images to add to an already impressive body of wedding photography in Denver and beyond!

Schulz, doing regal duty as best dog!

Schulz keeps a watchful eye for any wedding crashers. He has a good nose for trouble!

Taking his skills at wedding photography in Denver to the mountains for a wedding at Copper Mountain Resort, Garrett hacking takes his trusty assistant Schulz along for the job. When the best man fell down on the job, Schulz filled in admirably for the couple. His regal look fit in perfectly with groom and his party dressed in their Marine Corps finest. The bride was clearly thrilled in the end exclaiming “I really wanted Schulz in the wedding party from the start. Our dogs couldn’t make the trek from Florida, nor am I sure they could have handled the altitude like Schulz, the mountain dog! Thank you Schulz for coming to the rescue and being such a great member of our bridal party!” Garrett is hoping Schulz will return to duty for photography in Denver. Once he is done honeymooning with the couple!

Considering that Widespread Panic was about to – well – spread widely, things were pretty chill at the Taos Solar Music Festival. T minus 30 minutes to the concert, and folks still had room for a three-way Frisbee game at Kit Carson Park.

Behind the scenes, consummate concert photographer, Garrett Hacking, said hi to Sunny Ortiz, who he first met 15 years ago in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Summer solstice being what it is, the sun was still shining when Widespread Panic took the stage. The crowd materialized out of thin air and pressed to the stage.

And Garrett went to work capturing the action.

The sun set, the concert light show came on, the music enveloped the crowd and the air got thicker. Truth be told, your reporter, Bonnie Biafore, did have to inhale. It was a 3 hour concert so breathing was required. I couldn’t help but admire the Dr. Suess-like hat on a fellow concert-goer. Turns out, Wild Card’s  hat was once worn by Robert Plant .

Widespread Panic and guest guitarist Eric McFadden launched into an awe and dance-inspiring cover of Mississippi bluesman Bukka White’s Fixin’ To Die. The music reached a crescendo and then went higher.

A rare rendition of Dream Song opened the encore, followed by Pilgrims. The third encore tune was a raucous Ain’t Life Grand, running past the 11 PM curfew. But the fun and music isn’t over. Three nights at Red Rocks are coming up this weekend. Then it won’t be long and Garrett will switch gears back to some award winning  wedding photography in Denver. Variety is the spice of his life!
