Portrait Photography FAQ

Staff of six at advisor firm

Looking for a portrait photographer?

Most men and women need a portrait photography session at least once in their life, whether it’s senior pictures, family portraits, business headshots or a photoshoot to find the perfect dating profile pic. Photography G has 20 years of experience with portrait photography in the Denver and Boulder area. Garrett and Kellie have a knack for helping clients feel comfortable in front of the camera lens, which will leave you looking your best in each frame.

You can schedule your portrait session by calling (303) 444-6994. We will discuss what kind of photographs you’re looking for and decide which day and time work best for you.

What is Portrait Photography?

Portrait photography is the art of capturing a person’s identity through an image. Photography G works with our clients to take on this important task. We want to ensure we are highlighting the unique qualities and personality of each individual.

What sets Photography G apart from other portrait photographers?

Many photographers specialize in areas of photography such as solely doing weddings or portraits, but Photography G doesn’t limit their creative abilities to just one aspect of photography. Photography G offers photoshoots for:

  • Business
  • Newborns and Maternity
  • Family
  • Fashion and models
  • Pets
  • Dating sites
  • Couples
  • Boudoir

Photography G’s founder, Garrett, studied under renowned German Photographer Heinz Richter who helped him hone his craft and become one of the best photographers in Colorado.

I hate having my photo taken. How will you make me look good?

At Photography G, we don’t believe anyone is un-photogenic. The key to capturing you at your best is making you feel comfortable and relaxed. The G Team tends to veer away from rigid, posed pictures and instead focuses on being in the moment and catching a candid smile or laugh. Our ability to help you feel like yourself in front of the camera will leave you with images you’ll cherish and make you wonder why you hated having your photo taken to begin with.

“Garrett is absolutely wonderful! Aside from being a genuinely good person, he’s also a genuinely good photographer who loves his craft. I knew I was in good hands with him  – with his fun, caring, professional demeanor.  He went out of his way to satisfy me as a customer. Garrett knows how to make anyone feel comfortable, which is perhaps the biggest secret to great photography. Thanks to Garrett, an otherwise non-photogenic person (ME!) now has an awesome set of professional portraits.” — Johanna S

What is your style of photography?

Photography G’s style is organic and real. Photography G’s founder, Garrett began with photographing live concerts which require split-second decisions to achieve the perfect image. What’s more, both Garrett and Kellie began their careers using color and black-and-white film. Film photography required more know-how than the digital world we now live in. They couldn’t simply look at the back of the camera to see if exposure and framing were correct. They had to rely on instinct and talent to achieve stunning photographs with perfect composition.

Photojournalistic is the best way to describe how Photography G manages to capture these moments of pure excitement and emotion. This ability transfers to the portrait photography aspect of Photography G.

Is there a time limit for my portrait session?

No, there is not a time limit for your portrait photography session. However, we will need to know how much time to dedicate to you on the day of your photoshoot. The average portrait session takes one to two hours depending on whether you want your picture taken in the studio, on location or both. However, there could be an additional charge if your session exceeds two hours.

Can I bring multiple outfits?

Of course. You can bring as many outfits as you’d like, but we recommend you limit yourself to two or three. If you’re unsure of what you want to wear, we can help you narrow down your choices. Multiple outfits are often best for studio portraits as we have a changing area available for you to use. Changing your clothes on location can become tricky depending on whether we’re in the mountains or at a city park.

Is there a limit to the number of poses?

There is not a limit on poses. We want you to have ample options when you pick out which images to print and use on your business profile, dating site or social media.  The G team will encourage you to strike several poses, which helps you feel comfortable in front of the lens and gives them the opportunity to catch a genuine smile and pose.

Can I do my portraits in the studio and on location?

Many of our portrait clients choose to do their photoshoot in the studio and on location. Photography G will likely have you start in the studio, so any outfit changes can be done before we depart for the location. However, if your desired spot for photos is far away from our Uptown Denver studio, we may need to split your portrait session into a two-day shoot.

Will you come to our office to take photos of our business?

Photography G often comes to business locations to take staff photos and capture your office “environment” for branding purposes. They can also bring a backdrop for employee headshots. When Photography G does a corporate event, conference or sales meeting, they can also takes headshots of employees who may live out of town.

Do you accommodate last minute portrait requests?

Whenever possible, yes, but we can’t guarantee we will be available last minute. Many of our high school seniors and business professionals come to us on short notice, and more often than not, we can accommodate these requests.

How long until I have my images?

We realize you need your business headshots, newborn photos or family portraits as soon as possible, and we work to make sure you receive your images in a timely fashion. Our average turnaround for portrait photography is one week. We may also post a teaser image on social media while we finish the editing process.

Will I own the images from my photoshoot?

While you will have access to your images online to purchase prints and use on your website, dating profile or social media accounts, Photography G retains the copyright for your photos. We update our portfolio often and may use your photographs for advertising purposes. However, if you’re uncomfortable with your images being used in our marketing efforts, we can discuss other options.
