Wedding photography is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a photographer. There’s nothing like capturing the moment of pure happiness as a couple says, “I do.” Hundreds of photographers in the U.S. and many in Colorado specialize in weddings, but Photography G offers something different.
Our award-winning photographer, Garrett Hacking, doesn’t pigeon-hole his creative talent, but rather uses a wide range of styles to encapsulate who you are as a couple and the joy your family and friends show in sharing your wedding day with you. He got his start photographing Rock-n-Roll legends such as Bruce Springsteen, The Allman Brothers and even B.B. King. Garrett has earned the WeddingWire Couple’s Choice Award for four years running.
"I didn't want a photographer to tell me when to smile. I wanted one who would catch me when I was smiling. For the most part, I was unaware of Garrett's presence, yet when I received my proofs, it was clear that he was everywhere. I got to see reactions that I missed in the whirlwind of my wedding day, and relive my favorite moments." —Cayce G.

Brides and grooms often have similar questions when they come to our studio in Uptown Denver such as:
As we mentioned, Garrett Hacking got his start photographing live concerts and musicians. This experience taught him the necessity of recognizing the “decisive moment” as it’s called in the photography world. You have one second or less to get the perfect shot at a concert, which is like a wedding in many ways:
The reasons listed above and many more require split-second recognition and action for the photographer to freeze these fleeting moments so you can forever relive one of the happiest days of your life.
Remember film? Another aspect of Photography G that sets Garrett apart from other photographers is that he began his career in film and studied under one of the great German film photographers, Heinz Richter. While he now uses some of the most advanced cameras and tools available, Garrett hasn’t forgotten his roots.
Film photography teaches you how to be a good photographer because you can’t just look at the back of the camera—your exposure, framing, angles and overall composition must be precise through the viewfinder. Garrett has brought that aspect to the digital photography world because he doesn’t need to check the back of his camera to know his exposure is correct, which allows him to be present to what’s going on in front of his lens, i.e. your wedding.

Garrett’s style of photography is versatile and often categorized as photojournalistic. He believes in an unobtrusive approach to all events. This allows for the bride and groom and all wedding guests to stay in the moment and enjoy themselves without bumping into the photographer. Many men and women seek out Photography G for Garrett’s uncanny ability to tell the story of your wedding from donning your dress or cuff links to the last dance.
Garrett Hacking is approaching his 20th anniversary of professional photography, and he’s done weddings from the beginning. It’s difficult to put an exact number on the amount, but it’s safe to say more than 500. Photography G has been featured on the cover of Colorado Wedding Sites and Services a record-breaking three times. As for weddings similar to yours, there is no wedding like yours. Each event is a unique representation of you and your soon-to-be spouse.
Ownership of the photographs from your wedding day is determined by the package you choose and on a case-by-case basis. In most cases, you will have access to all of your images and may post them on social media as you see fit. However, we like to showcase Garrett’s event favorites on our website, social media and even magazine covers, especially due to the high percentage of our clients who come to us on a word-of-mouth basis. If you’re uncomfortable with Photography G using your photos for marketing purposes, you can discuss this during your one-on-one consultation with Garrett at our Denver studio.
The size of your wedding is one of the deciding factors of whether you need a second photographer. An event with more than 100 guests would benefit from another set of eyes behind a camera. Garrett typically has an assistant with him at weddings and events to hand him equipment, and our assistants at Photography G are also skilled photographers. Regardless of the size of your guest list, we will make sure to cover each aspect of your day thoroughly.
We realize your wedding may not stay on track with your timeline and that’s perfectly normal! Most weddings hit a snag or two and don’t start on time. Our photographer will make sure all of the important parts of your event are covered and if necessary, stay later to accommodate the change in your schedule. Depending on how late we need to stay, you may need to pay a small additional charge.
We offer our brides, grooms and their families hand-made book and box albums. Our books are custom bound, and our boxes offer a unique way to display your wedding photos using stands. These timeless albums are bound or placed within real leather covers to prevent wear and tear over the years. We try to stay away from digital albums as they may “lose fashion” as trends change, and the digital printing will make the images fade due to handling with your fingers and exposure to the elements.
Our albums are included in most of our wedding photography packages.
Wedding season is busy for most successful photographers, but we also want to make sure you get your images in a timely manner. Our average turnaround for online viewing and ordering is typically within two weeks. However, we post some of our initial favorites of your event on social media for you to get a sneak peek at what’s to come.
We believe your event should be our only focus on that day, which assures you that Garrett will be 100% physically and emotionally present at your wedding. This also gives you flexibility if you need to change your timeline around. Garrett is not an assembly-line photographer. You and your fiancé will be one of a select few weddings Garrett and the Photography G team shoot each year.
You can expect complete professionalism from Garrett during and after your wedding day. He will work closely with the other vendors at your event to make sure you stay on schedule as much as possible. We will discuss the family portraits and aspects of your wedding you’d like covered beforehand to make sure nothing is overlooked. Garrett’s unobtrusive, photojournalistic style will let him fade into the background as you get ready and enjoy the day.
Garrett will check in with you at the end of the night before he and our team leave to make sure we’ve captured everything. Without fail, clients give amazing feedback to Garrett about his interactions with guests and his ability to make everyone in front of the lens comfortable.
Over the last 20 years, Garrett has developed the ability to identify and capture the most special moments of life. The weddings he photographs often grow into a long relationship with the couple, and he’s called upon for newborn, family and senior portraits. During your consultation, Garrett will answer all your questions and give you a tour of our studio gallery. You can view our amazing, hand-crafted albums we offer, and if you’re a dog lover, you can snuggle up with our company pup, Schulz the Schnauzer.
