Union Pacific’s “Big Boy” Rolls across Colorado

There are few sights more inspiring than seeing history come alive. As part of the nationwide celebration leading up to America 250, Union Pacific’s legendary Big Boy steam locomotive made its way across the country, drawing thousands of rail enthusiasts, families, and photographers eager to witness this incredible machine in motion. I was fortunate to photograph its unforgettable journey as it thundered across Colorado.

The Big Boy is more than a locomotive—it’s a symbol of American innovation, determination, and the engineering spirit that helped connect a nation. Watching its massive wheels turn, hearing the whistle echo through the mountains, and seeing steam billow into the Colorado sky created moments that simply can’t be recreated.
