Romance Photography FAQ

bride and groom kissing

Looking for a talented photographer for your proposal, engagement or wedding?

Over the last 20 years, Garrett has developed the ability to identify and capture the most special moments of life. The weddings he photographs often grow into a long relationship with the couple, and he’s called upon for newborn, family and senior portraits. During your consultation, Garrett will answer all your questions and give you a tour of our studio gallery. You can view our amazing, hand-crafted albums we offer, and if you’re a dog lover, you can snuggle up with our company pup, Schulz the Schnauzer.

If you’re getting ready to tie the knot, call Photography G today at (303) 444-6994 to schedule your consultation. We provide photography services to clients in Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, the mountains and across the country.

What is your style of photography?

Photography G’s style of photography is versatile and often categorized as photojournalistic. We believe in an unobtrusive approach to all events. This allows for the bride and groom and all wedding guests to stay in the moment and enjoy themselves without bumping into the photographer. Many men and women seek out Photography G for our uncanny ability to tell the story of your wedding from donning your dress or cuff links to the last dance.

What separates Photography G from all the other photographers out there?

As we mentioned, Photography G’s founder, Garrett Hacking, got his start photographing live concerts and musicians. This experience taught him the necessity of recognizing the “decisive moment” as it’s called in the photography world. You have one second or less to get the perfect shot at a concert, which is like a wedding in many ways:

  • You and your family go through a variety of emotions before, during and after the wedding ceremony such as the father of the bride shedding one brief tear as he gives his daughter away.
  • The iconic first kiss between the bride and groom is one of the most important moments of the wedding ceremony, and it takes a certain amount of skill and instinct to frame and capture the couple’s first official kiss.
  • The first dance, the bouquet toss and bridal party speeches are essential parts of the reception as well integral aspects of documenting the story of your wedding.

Remember film? Another aspect of Photography G that sets us apart from other photographers is that Garrett began his career in film and studied under one of the great German film photographers, Heinz Richter. While he now uses some of the most advanced cameras and tools available, Garrett hasn’t forgotten his roots. It was important when Kellie joined, that she also had this same type of background in film.

Film photography teaches you how to be a good photographer because you can’t just look at the back of the camera—your exposure, framing, angles and overall composition must be precise through the viewfinder. Garrett and Kellie bring that aspect to the digital photography world because they don’t need to check the back of their cameras to know the exposure is correct, which allows them to be present to what’s going on in front of the lens, i.e. your wedding.

How many weddings have you done? Have many been similar to mine?

Photography G is approaching their 20th anniversary of professional photography and have been photographing weddings since the beginning. It’s difficult to put an exact number on the amount, but it’s safe to say more than 500. Photography G has been featured on the cover of Colorado Wedding Sites and Services a record-breaking three times. As for weddings similar to yours, there is no wedding like yours. Each event is a unique representation of you and your soon-to-be spouse.

Will we own our photos?

Ownership of the photographs from your wedding day is determined by the package you choose and on a case-by-case basis. In most cases, you will have access to all of your images and may post them on social media as you see fit. However, we like to showcase our event favorites on our website, social media and even magazine covers. If you’re uncomfortable with Photography G using your photos for marketing purposes, you can discuss this during your one-on-one consultation at our Denver studio.

Will there be more than one photographer?

The size of your wedding is one of the deciding factors of whether you need a second photographer. An event with more than 100 guests would benefit from another set of eyes behind a camera. Photography G’s team typically includes the photographer and an assistant.  Our assistants at Photography G are also skilled photographers. Regardless of the size of your guest list, we will make sure to cover each aspect of your day thoroughly.

If my wedding goes longer than expected, will you stay?

We realize your wedding may not stay on track with your timeline and that’s perfectly normal! Most weddings hit a snag or two and don’t start on time. We will make sure all of the important parts of your event are covered and if necessary, stay later to accommodate the change in your schedule. Depending on how late we need to stay, you may need to pay a small additional charge.

Do you offer a wedding album?

We offer our brides, grooms and their families hand-made albums. Our books are custom designed, printed and bound. These timeless albums are bound or placed within real leather covers to prevent wear and tear over the years. We try to stay away from digital albums as they may “lose fashion” as trends change, and the digital printing will make the images fade due to handling with your fingers and exposure to the elements.

Our albums are included in most of our wedding photography packages.

How long until my photos are ready?

Wedding season is busy for most successful photographers, but we also want to make sure you get your images in a timely manner. Our average turnaround for online viewing and ordering is typically within two to four weeks. However, we post some of our initial favorites of your event on social media for you to get a sneak peek at what’s to come.

How many events will you cover the day of my wedding?

We believe your event should be our only focus on that day, which assures you that Photography G will be 100% physically and emotionally present at your wedding. This also gives you flexibility if you need to change your timeline around. We are not assembly-line photographers. You and your fiancé will be one of a select few weddings the Photography G team shoot each year.

What can I expect from you as my wedding photographer?

You can expect complete professionalism from Photography G during and after your wedding day. We will work closely with the other vendors at your event to make sure you stay on schedule as much as possible. We will discuss the family portraits and aspects of your wedding you’d like covered beforehand to make sure nothing is overlooked. The Team’s unobtrusive, photojournalistic style allows us to fade into the background as you get ready and enjoy the day. We will check in with you at the end of the night before our team leaves to make sure we’ve captured everything.
